4514173888_6270c2305e_bA team of researchers have found that women tend to raise their voice pitch depending on the strength of their attraction to particular men.

In the study, women were assigned to leave what they figured was a voice-mail message to a prototypical male. Next, the voice pitch of the voice recordings were analyzed for relative pitch.

The study found that when women left a message for a man they felt was attractive, they tended to increase their voice pitch.

The researchers say that this is evidence that women raise their voice pitch when they want to sound attractive to a male counterpart.

This makes sense given that previous studies have shown that men prefer women with higher voice pitches.

“Speaking with a higher voice pitch when talking to the type of man they find most attractive,” say the researchers “may function to reduce the amount of mating effort that women expend in order to attract and retain preferred mates.”

The “message” is clear: Women should raise their voice pitch when trying to attract desirable suitors. Men, on the other hand, should monitor women’s voice pitch, particularly how it is modified in their presence, to ascertain a woman’s sexual desire and interest.
